3 Simple Daily Steps for Leadership and Problem-Solving Success
Have you ever wondered how great leaders are able to solve complex problems effortlessly?
The answer is that they hone these skills every single day.
Here are three steps you can use every day to positively impact your personal and professional growth.
I work with business owners daily and all too often we see business owners who continue to try to solve the problem from the same place where they are stuck. Unfortunately, this is just asking for more of the same.
The good news is that it is easy to get out of that same hole and start leading from a higher level. Here are three practical steps you can use every day to hone your Leadership Skills.
#1: Learn From Others Via Real Life Examples
Number one, learn from others via real life examples and not just theory, because theory is theory. We want good business owners to really dig in, watch, learn, listen to other successful business owners and leaders. This is a critical element of hearing and learning what they have done that worked, and what didn’t work. Bonus if the person explains how they successfully fixed their problem!
#2: Quit Being Subjective, Instead Use Data
Number two, quit being subjective! Use data!!
There’s a reason I’m constantly talking about using financial dashboards and getting your data. It is because data can tell you the real story, not just the subjective or the vanity metrics, but real data that allows you to be objective.
Think of this scenario, supervisor is trying to get worker to step up and do more but doesn’t have solid information. The conversation may go something like this, “We want you to do more.” Team member, “What do you mean more… I’ve completed 2 projects a week. Supervisor then responds, well it just seems like there is so much work and you should be getting more done.” …. You can easily see how this conversation is spiraling the wrong way.
With data, you can have conversations which will be focused on how to improve and resolve the situations with a win win.
Does this take work to choose accurate data to track and use as key performance indicators? Of course it does, but that is what will make you more successful and more profitable so it is well worth it!
#3: Big Picture Thinking
Number three, big picture thinking. Be looking forward toward your bigger goals and lead, not from a place of in the moment, but from that place you want to be.
That’s such a big part of really trying to get to that place where you want to be in a year, two years. Quit solving problems from where you are today. These skills are not innate, but they can be developed through consistent practice and effort. Again, surround yourself with other leaders and successful people and you will see this in practice. This is why it’s so important to go to workshops and to be involved. This gives you an opportunity to ask questions, to talk through the nuances, to why they did things, what worked, what didn’t work, and make sure you have the time to enjoy life a little bit? It shouldn’t be all work, work, work.
Use these three simple steps. Number one, learn from others. Quit being subjective and big picture thinking, this will increase your effectiveness as a leader and your ability to solve problems faster. So get out, use these techniques, and share your experience below in the comment section.
