How To Get Focused Coaching That Actually Works For Your Business
One of the most common questions out there is “What Type of Coach Do I Need?”
The bottom line, it is all about getting the right coaching at the right time based on YOUR needs at that moment. Let’s break down a couple of things that I commonly discuss when people ask me this question.
1: Growth Coaching to Achieve Your Business Goals
The Number one thing people say they want is growth. Now to be clear, it is often not what they need, but it is what they say they want. A few will say they don’t want to grow, but most want some type of growth.
So when you are looking at coaches, it is helpful to look at what type of growth you want so you can find a coach who has been there and can help you achieve what you want to achieve.
Do you want to grow big? And if so how big? Big financially? Big as in a bigger team? Big as in multiple offices? Or a bigger team but in just one location? Do you want to be virtual? Quasi-virtual? So many options but this is what can help you find the right coach so you can get focused coaching that will help you thrive!
#2: More Free Time.
Another option is to remain at a level, perhaps a little smaller or a little bigger, but mainly focus on having more free time and staying profitable. That’s such a key part. I know I went through a phase of that myself, and it is what allowed us to hone our processes, get streamlined, and have more fun. That was an exciting chapter of our lives.
If freeing up your time is your key issue, you want to find a coach who can identify where your processes are clunky and help you build out the policies, procedures, and systems to streamline the business. This is what then allows you to hire people to run the systems.
As Michael Gerber famously said, “Systems run the business, people run the systems.”
#3: Marketing and Sales.
A lot of people struggle with how to build a marketing plan you believe in. Perhaps you know you need marketing to grow, you know the numbers you want to get to, but you don’t have a marketing campaign and plan to get you there.
You shouldn’t need a marketing coach ongoing for years. Get a coach who can help you build your marketing plan and who will teach you how to do it so you can continue to build out your plans as you grow. You also want a coach who understands how to build out different marketing campaigns to target different personas so you don’t fatigue the audience you are working with.
#4: Your Financials, Data and Profitability.
Which services bring you the biggest return for the amount of time and energy that goes into them? This is where knowing your gross profit margins is so important. Once you learn that, then you can direct Sales in the right quantities and the right numbers. This may mean more coaching for the sales team or just being more intentional about which clients to allow through the screening process. (and of course, if you are not getting the right types of clients into your funnel… well then it is back to marketing to get more of those right types of people in the door!) So, whether you need more help with marketing or sales, or we first look at your financials and your data to zero in on what is moving the needle, having a coach that can help you with this is vital.
#5: Management
Finally, if you need help with management, get a coach that can help you in this area. Maybe you’re just not one of those people that grew up with a lot of team members or staff, and you need to learn how to manage your team better. Understanding where you need help is vital.
Another area of need might focus on leadership, management, and building a culture where people thrive (and not living in fear of “zap you’re fired”). Management coaches can also help you and your team learn how to track objective data and hold people accountable to those numbers. This is where you can have real conversations that are meaningful, not just superficial.
Coaching that meets you where you are, that is what it is all about. That is why we are here, to help people with the right coaching at the right time. We love that people can move to one specialty coach, work with them for two months, and then move on to the next coach. You don’t need the same coach forever. Pick the coach you need for where you are and get the focused coaching you need so you can move forward faster.
